Semana Santa, Easter Week – Antigua, Guatemala

I had no idea it was Easter week. I’m not a religious sort, and had no idea Easter was coming around. I suppose it had been a while since I’d been to a mall or grocery store in the States, and missed all the chocolate eggs and bunnies.

I was in Antigua, and in a country where Catholicism has a strong influence, the event is taken seriously. They call it Semana Santa, commemoration of the Passion of Jesus Christ – the walk Jesus took entering Jerusalem, carrying his cross up to his crucifixion. This, to celebrate the rebirth and victory over death, for those who believe.
